Biography

Bottles is a mole who suffers from short-sightedness and wears thick "coke-bottle"-framed glasses. He previously lived in Jinjo Village, wherein his domicile was "Bottles' House". Bottles frequents Spiral Mountain to visit Tooty, Banjo and Kazooie. He, for no apparent reason, has immense knowledge of moves able to executed by bears with birds in their backpacks. He is also the captain of the moles' soccer team, who frequently play matches against the Jinjos. He is married to Mrs. Bottles with whom he has two children, Speccy and Goggles. He also has a brother named Jamjars. Bottles has suffered death at the hands of Gruntilda, although he was soon resurrected by Banjo and Kazooie. Currently, he lives and works in Showdown Town as a tour guide.

In Banjo-Kazooie, Bottles is a very important part of the duo's quest: he teaches them the moves that get them through Gruntilda's Lair and the various worlds within. He also summons a Flight Pad during the final battle when Grunty takes to the skies.

Bottles' Bonus

Bottles also plays a side role in the game: after opening the Sandcastle in Treasure Trove Cove, if the player uses first-person view in Banjo's house to look at the picture of Bottles above the fireplace, a "moving picture" puzzle will begin. For each puzzle that is successfully completed, Bottles will give an aesthetic cheat code that changes Banjo and Kazooie's appearances in some way.

Banjo-Tooie

At the start of Banjo-Tooie, he is killed off almost immediately and is, for the duration of the game, replaced instead by his army veteran brother, Sergeant Jamjars.

His spirit does play a small part in the second game, however. In Spiral Mountain, standing near Bottles' spirit and pressing B will cause him to make a comment about his situation. He also communicates (apparently telepathically) with Banjo and Kazooie at his molehills scattered around the area. Pressing B at one of the molehills will cause a menu with two or three moves from Banjo-Kazooie to be displayed (per molehill), and selecting one will cause Bottles' spirit to briefly review the move for those who are just playing a Banjo game for the first time, or simply need a refresher.

Just before the end of the game, Banjo and Kazooie bring Bottles back to life using the Big-O-Blaster, directly after they use it to restore King Jingaling from zombification.

Bottles' Revenge

Bottles Revenge is a competitive side-game in Banjo-Tooie in which a second player can control baddies from the single-player game using the character of Devil Bottles.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

Bottles appears in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts as a tourist information officer in Showdown Town, a job fitting of his teaching nature. He, like other returning characters, sports a new design: he now has legs and his claws are distinctly colored. He also has a new suit, likely a work uniform for his job as tour guide. He also appears as an actor in the Nutty Acres, LOGBOX 720, Banjoland, and Jiggosseum game worlds.

Additionally, in Spiral Mountain, a grave marking the spot of Bottles' death in Banjo-Tooie appears, with an Info Point describing it. There is also a single molehill just beyond Banjo's house.

Banjo-Pilot

Bottles appears as the "host" character and also an unlockable playable racer in Banjo-Pilot. His stats are as follows:

  • Top Speed: 5/5
  • Acceleration: 4/5
  • Handling: 4/5

Quotes

From Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

  • "Hello! I'm Bottles, remember? I used to be dead, but fortunately I got over that. This is the town's tourist information booth, where you can find all kinds of help and info if you get stuck."
  • Stop 'N' Swop Truth
"I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you, and we couldn't show that in a game with this rating. Put it out of your mind and think happy thoughts! Thanks for the Notes!"
  • "Are you losing the plot, Banjo? You don't have enough Notes!"
  • "I know we go way back, but I'm not a charity! Cough up!"
  • "What's this, trying to swindle your old friend now? For shame!"

Useless Rubbish

The following quotes are answers to questions in Bottles' Useless Rubbish menu.

  • Are you of any use?
"No, I'm useless. I can't even see where I'm going! Is that what you wanted to hear? So harsh..."
  • Where's Mrs. Bottles?
"Mrs. Bottles was mowed down by Grunty in one of her vehicles. Wait, I said earlier that she was safe at home in Spiral Mountain, didn't I? Er..."
  • Did you enjoy being dead?
"Well, it has its plus points, but on the whole I'd have to say the mortal coil-shuffling experience is overrated."
  • What do you know about KI3?
"I heard it's going to star Mighty Bottles. I'm knitting myself a bandana just in case that turns out to be true!"
  • Can you tell me how to win?
"Easy. Play better! Be less rubbish! Didn't expect THAT, did you?"
  • Any fashion advice?
"I hear the trilby is very fashionable amongst the programming fraternity nowadays..."
