Bottles' Revenge
From RWP Wiki
Bottles' Revenge is a competitive side-game in Banjo-Tooie in which a second player can control baddies from the single-player game using the character of Devil Bottles. Originally believed to have been removed before release, it was finally unexpectedly uncovered by Ice Mario and SubDrag on September 27, 2004.
Description
It begins with a cutscene showing Angel Bottles turning into Devil Bottles and explaining the premise of the game. Player 2 can control any baddies near Devil Bottles (such baddies are marked by white "sparklies"). When no controllable enemies are in the immediate area, Devil Bottles floats over Banjo, Kazooie and Mumbo. None of the non-player characters react to Devil Bottles looming over the characters, so it is possible only the three can see him.
It is unknown precisely why Devil Bottles would want revenge on Banjo, Kazooie or Mumbo considering he died by Gruntilda's hand. Likely, Devil Bottles is the manifestation of all the negativity within Bottles (like a cliche "shoulder devil") and thus is completely different in personality. This is backed up by Devil Bottles' mocking of his own corpse as "dead boy down there."
Trivia
- Bosses are not controllable by player 2. When their respective boss room is entered, Devil Bottles remarks that he doesn't think he's needed and disappears until the battle ends.
- Mingella and Blobbelda are controllable by player 2 during the Tower of Tragedy quiz show.
