Gold Feathers are used by Kazooie as a shield to become invulnerable to most hazards, although there are some exceptions such as bottomless pits, quicksand, etc.

Banjo Kazooie

In BK, gold feathers were usually in easily-missed areas and appeared in groups of 1-3. When you first learned the moves from Bottles inside of Clanker There was a cheat given to you by Cheato that allowed you to carry 20 of them.

Banjo Tooie

In BT, you start out being able to carry 10 gold feathers. They were easier to find because they were found in feather nests which gave you 2 feathers per nest. When you found 10 Cheato Pages, Cheato would give you the code "feathers" which would allow you to carry 20 of them.

Grunty's Revenge

In BK:GR, the ability to use gold feathers was found in Spiller's Harbor You could only carry 10 throughout the game.
