Snide is a character in the Donkey Kong series.

Biography

Snide is a weasel who rewards the player for collecting blueprints in Donkey Kong 64. Snide was the lead designer for the Blast-o-Matic, the ray gun which King K. Rool plans to use to destroy DK Isle. However, after the machine was built, Snide decided that he could not support the Kremlings in their sinister plot, and turned traitor to them, attempting to remedy his actions by helping the Kongs destroy the machine before it's too late.

In order for Snide to figure out how to defuse the gun, he will need his original blueprints back. These have been split into many pieces, and are now in the hands of K. Rool's beefiest henchmen, the Kasplats. Five Kasplats lurk in every level (besides Hideout Helm) as well as the overworld, each with a different color blueprint corresponding to the color of their hair. Though any Kong can destroy a Kasplat, only the rightful Kongs can pick up the color-coded blueprints they drop.

Snide can be found in "Snide's HQ", which appears in every level (except Hideout Helm) as well as the overworld. For each blueprint a Kong returns to his HQ, Snide will give them a golden banana, which is delivered to them through a contrived contraption. There are 40 blueprints total. While at the HQ, the player can also view a screen showing all the blueprints that have been collected so far.

In the final level, Hideout Helm, the number of blueprints you have collected for Snide determines the time limit you will have to shut down the Blast-o-Matic. The maximum time limit is 50 minutes.

After every blueprint in the game has been collected and returned, Snide will allow you to play many of the mini-games that can be found in barrels throughout the game whenever you visit his HQ.
